Clinical Skills Tutor (Lecturer) (Education & Scholarship)

University of Exeter, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 3HD
. The position is part‑time (0.2‑0.6 FTE) and permanent, starting 26 August 2026. Salary: £43,482 per annum pro rata (GradeF) subject to knowledge, skills and experience. Normal working days will be Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday. Candidates should indicate the days and number of days they are available each week.
The role
The Faculty of Health & Life Sciences requires part‑time Clinical Skills Tutors to support the delivery of all aspects of clinical skills, including communication skills, for years three to five of the five‑year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) degree. Tutors will deliver pre‑designed sessions on the BMBS timetable to medical students.
Responsibilities
- Teach clinical and communication skills to BMBS students.
- Develop and deliver teaching programmes aligned with the curriculum.
- Use a range of delivery techniques to engage and enthuse students.
- Participate in and build external networks (e.g., student recruitment, outreach activities).
- Maintain a current clinical post, where possible, to keep teaching relevant to evolving healthcare practice.
- Act as a team player within the Clinical Skills Department.
Qualifications
- Registration with GMC, NMC or HCPC and sufficient breadth of core knowledge and depth of specialist knowledge in the relevant discipline.
- Evidence of excellent teaching by peer review and impact at the programme level.
- Experience in developing and delivering teaching programmes.
- Capacity to manage multiple teaching sessions and collaborate with colleagues.
- Desire or ability to work towards Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) status and engage in formal CPD.
