About the RoleSpark Ed Recruitment is working in partnership with a number of welcoming and inclusive schools across Exeter to recruit enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Learning Mentors for flexible temporary and day-to-day supply opportunities.
This rewarding position offers the chance to support pupils across Key Stages 1-4, helping them engage with learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals. Assignments can range from single-day cover to short-term placements, providing flexibility and variety within different educational settings.
As a SEND Learning Mentor, you will support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Your role will be key in helping young people overcome barriers to learning while encouraging both academic progress and personal development.

Key Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
- Foster positive, trusting relationships that encourage participation, confidence, and wellbeing
- Support students experiencing behavioural challenges, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, or emotional difficulties
- Assist pupils in developing social, emotional, and academic skills
- Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff to deliver tailored support strategies
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Adapt effectively to different schools, classrooms, and student needs
We welcome applications from individuals with a range of backgrounds and experience levels. Previous experience supporting children, young people, or individuals with additional needs is advantageous but not essential, as training and ongoing support are provided.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting young people
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be reliable, adaptable, and confident working across different school environments
- Demonstrate resilience and a positive approach when supporting students with complex needs
- Have an interest in education, childcare, psychology, social care, youth work, or a related field (desirable)
- Have experience or knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or behaviour support strategies (desirable)
