Salary: £34,662 rising to £40,383 per annum + Excellent Benefits including Government Pension

Location: Hybrid Working/Police Headquarters, Exeter OR Plymouth, St Austell

Hours per week: This role is 37 hours per week. However, we welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and we are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need.

About the role:

To deliver, develop and evaluate high-quality Public and Personal Safety Training (PPST), First Aid and Taser training, ensuring officers and staff maintain the knowledge, skills and confidence required to perform their duties safely, lawfully and effectively. The post holder will equip learners with the practical skills, tactical awareness and decision‑making abilities necessary to protect themselves and the public, while promoting best practice, officer safety and public confidence.

Through professional instruction, assessment, coaching and quality assurance, the role supports organisational learning and operational readiness, ensuring compliance with national standards, legislation and force policies, and contributing to a competent, confident and operationally effective workforce.

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate PPST, First Aid and Taser training to ensure officers and staff remain operationally competent and accredited. Assess learner performance, maintain training records and provide coaching to support development and confidence. Ensure all training is delivered safely, consistently and in line with national guidance, legislative requirements and force priorities, contributing to officer safety and organisational readiness.
  • All training posts are generic in nature and therefore there may be a requirement to deliver training packages as a facilitator/lecturer to meet the demands of the force across other areas on occasion.
  • Design and deliver training packages for on and off the job training. To include written materials, classroom sessions and learning exercises, utilising all available technology by adopting innovative and alternative methods of delivery where appropriate.
  • Identify individual training needs of students, as well as the occupational and organisational training needs of the Force (training needs analysis). Meet and discuss with line management and senior police and support staff management, the training needs of individuals, departments and divisions. To accurately and fairly assess the skills and abilities of those undergoing training against relevant National Occupational Standards and Authorised Practice.
