About The E‑R‑R Group And The Resilience Engineering Team

Our Environment‑Resilience‑Renewables (ERR) group is one of the UK’s leading teams in renewables, industry, offshore, coasts, rivers, water, ports, and wider inland developments. Home to ~200 professionals across nine UK offices, we collaborate extensively with other parts of the business including Maritime, Mobility & Infrastructure, and Industry & Buildings — providing multidisciplinary delivery for major clients.

Our 30‑strong Resilience Engineering team delivers coastal, fluvial, and drainage projects from strategy through to design as well as construction support. We work with local authorities, government bodies, developers, and contractors on dynamic and high‑profile schemes, including:

  • Northey Island Coastal Adaptation
  • Holme Sluice Fish Pass (the UK’s largest)

Our team combines engineering, environmental, and project management expertise to deliver solutions that reduce risk, enhance habitats, protect communities, and unlock economic and social value.

The Role

You will play a pivotal role in shaping and expanding our Resilience Engineering offering across the UK and internationally. You will combine commercial leadership, client engagement, and technical excellence to drive growth and deliver high‑impact projects. The role is envisaged to be at experienced Principal or Technical Director level with significant industry experience and network.

  • Strengthen market profile, build long‑term client relationships, and drive business development to secure new opportunities and strategic frameworks in resilience engineering.
  • Support growth planning across regions, clients, and services‑forecasting and shaping workload pipelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other business lines to position and deliver multidisciplinary solutions.
  • Ensure commercial robustness across all project phases, including programme, budget, risk management, and claims avoidance.
  • Lead as Project Director / Technical Lead on a portfolio of coastal, fluvial, and drainage resilience projects.
  • Drive early‑stage value creation through feasibility studies, optioneering, business cases, and client advisory work.
  • Develop international opportunities by collaborating with global Haskoning teams and clients.
  • Provide leadership to the Resilience Engineering Practice, guiding technical direction, capability development, and knowledge sharing across ~30 engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee technical quality through high‑level reviews of designs, strategies, and reports.
  • Mentor and develop early career professionals, supporting their progression toward chartership.
About You
  • Strong commercial acumen and a proven track record in winning work and delivering profitable, high‑performing resilience engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills that inspire trust with clients and colleagues.
  • Confidence navigating contractual, commercial, and procurement frameworks.
  • The ability to think strategically while delivering practical, high‑quality technical advice.
  • Deep expertise in coastal, fluvial, and drainage engineering, with the credibility to lead major resilience projects.
  • Chartered Engineer status (e.g., ICE) with 20‑25+ years in water's edge engineering.
