We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Solar Electrical Design Engineer to support the design and development of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing electrical designs, calculations, and engineering documentation to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant solar energy systems.
This role requires collaboration with project managers, civil engineers, SCADA engineers, utilities, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Main Responsibilities- Design electrical systems for solar PV and energy storage projects
- Prepare engineering deliverables including:
- Electrical site layouts
- Grounding and lightning protection drawings
- Perform electrical calculations including:
- Voltage drop analysis
- Load flow analysis
- Select and specify electrical equipment such as:
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Combiner boxes
- Coordinate interconnection requirements with utilities and grid operators
- Support development of SCADA, protection, and communication system interfaces
- Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and technical specifications
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, utility, and local code requirements
- Support construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams to deliver projects on schedule
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 2+ years of experience in solar electrical design or power systems engineering
- Knowledge of solar PV system design principles and utility interconnection requirements
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar design software
- Experience with electrical analysis software
- Familiarity with medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems
- Understanding of NEC, IEC, IEEE, and NFPA standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience with utility-scale solar & Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Knowledge of SCADA, protection and control, or substation design
- Experience supporting commissioning
- Familiarity with renewable energy modelling software such as PVsyst
