Are you a Manufacturing Engineer with a passion for product development and Design for Manufacture? We're recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join a leading manufacturing business in Exeter, playing a key role within its Research & Development team.
This position offers the chance to work on the development of new products from concept through to production, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective and capable of meeting quality and performance requirements.
The Role
Working closely with Design Engineers, Production Engineering, Quality and other key stakeholders, you will support the development of innovative products while driving continuous improvement initiatives across existing product ranges.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring new product designs are suitable for manufacture and assembly
- Identifying manufacturing, tooling, material and assembly challenges during development
- Influencing design decisions to improve manufacturability, repeatability and cost-effectiveness
- Leading prototype builds and providing technical feedback to stakeholders
- Supporting design reviews and Design for Manufacture (DFM) activities
- Leading engineering projects focused on quality improvements, optimisation and cost reduction
- Supporting DFMEA reviews and risk assessments
- Working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes and products
About You
Applicants should ideally have:
- Experience with in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture principles
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes, materials and tolerances
- Experience using 3D CAD software and producing 2D technical drawings
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
