The Recovery Department in Eastern RDUH is made up of three main areas, General Recovery, Centre for Womens Health (CWH) and Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC). We also provide recovery for the West of England Eye Unit, Cardiology, MRI CT and Endoscopy services.
Patient care is provided by Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners and Assistant Practitioners, for patients undergoing surgery procedures under general or regional anaesthesia. We are also supported by Band 2/3 Recovery Assistants.
Working Patterns aim to meet the operational demands of the service and to accommodate the flexible and family friendly working within this remit so the shift patterns vary from those on the wards.
In recovery you will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to help you achieve the best for our patients and build on your knowledge and skills. You will have the support of the practice educator team to enrich your learning experience and help you develop.

Are you looking for a new challenge or to developing your surgical nursing skills? We are looking for a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive Recovery team. The post provides the opportunity to develop skills and experience across the Recovery units in general, orthopaedic, womens health theatres and WEEU; caring for both adult and paediatric patients.
As well as providing overnight enhanced care for level 1.5 surgical patients.
The post is open to practitioners who have up-to-date Recovery or acute surgical in-patient experience and are registered general nurses/ ODPs or registered paediatric nurses.
If you already have Surgical, Recovery or Critical Care experience you would be able to integrate into the established Recovery team and support future unit developments and junior staff.
The successful candidate will be supported with a 6-week supernumerary induction period and pack, as well as support from a named facilitator to enable them to gain the skills and experience required. Additionally, the Recovery Practice Educators are allocated to support the further enhancement of existing Recovery/Critical care skills and competencies.
