Pharmacy Automation Senior Assistant Technical Officer

This is a challenging, fast paced and interesting position, that is essential for the effective delivery of pharmacy services. Knowledge of pharmacy procurement, distribution, automation and ordering systems is essential for this role, although full training on local systems will be provided.

This is an opportunity for the right candidate with excellent team working, communication and organisational skills to make a real difference in supporting the delivery of excellent patient care.

Job responsibilities

This post provides a unique opportunity to join the pharmacy team at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fast paced and demanding role, so applicants should be organised, motivated, enthusiastic, keen to learn and able to multi‑task comfortably.

Admin experience (keyboard skills, basic Excel, Microsoft Word & web‑based resources) is essential as is being educated to GCSE (or equivalent) level.

The post holder will work as part of the pharmacy procurement team and will work closely with the distribution team.

The Royal Devon was established in April 2022, bringing together the expertise of both the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.

Excellent communication skills (verbal, telephone and email), and the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure as part of a team are essential.

Any successful applicant for the post will be expected to participate in flexible working which will include weekend, late duty and bank holiday rotas.

Qualifications and Experience

• GCSE (or equivalent) level education.

• Admin experience with keyboard skills, basic Excel and Microsoft Word.

• Ability to troubleshoot problems efficiently and manage workload effectively.

• Excellent communication (verbal, telephone and email) and teamwork skills.

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Check.

Contract and Working Hours

Weekly

Working Hours:

37.5 per week Monday to Friday 08:30am – 17:00pm.

Pay

The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026‑7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025‑6 pay bandings.
