Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Ophthalmology Eastern in a secondment position as Admin Line Manager until 15th March 2027 to cover maternity leave, across our Ophthalmology sites.

As Administrative Line Manager, the post holder will have overall responsibility for the administration staff for Ophthalmology eastern alongside ensuring effective and efficient processes are in place. We are looking for a candidate who can organise and motivate the team, and provide leadership to ensure practices are efficient to reduce waiting lists and get patients seen on time.

Key responsibilities:

  • Team management
    • Ensure all staff are managed appropriately and within parameters set by the Administrating Service Manager.
    • Support and motivate the administrative workforce, inclusive of in-house training.
    • Overall responsibility for complex absence management, PDRs and mandatory training and annual leave within the department.
  • Effective and efficient service
    • Ensure the administrative service is appropriately resourced and the work is closely aligned to the needs of the department and the Trust’s strategic agenda and direction.
    • Ensure that administrative services function effectively, e.g. Ophthalmology theatre and outpatient lists are fully utilised.
    • Ensure implementation and compliance with relevant policies/procedures within Ophthalmology Eastern.
  • Patient care
    • Provide excellent patient care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives.
    • Ensure information is secure and confidentiality is maintained.
    • Monitor key performance indicators, e.g. USC and continuous management of long waiting patients within the department through PTLs and continuous monitoring of the work queues and reports.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and share knowledge.

Working Pattern: 31 hours per week

Please note, this is an internal vacancy for Royal Devon employees, therefore Bank workers are currently not eligible to apply for this vacancy. This is a fixed term contract until 15th March 2027. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers )
