Phlebotomist/Healthcare Assistant

We are searching for a Phlebotomist/ healthcare assistant to join our nursing team. This role will support the clinical team in the delivery of high quality health care services to our practice population, working alongside experienced team members and following specific guidelines and protocols.
This is a part time role (24 hours), salary will be dependent on experience.
Main duties of the jobWorking under thedirect supervision of the Practice Nurses and in accordance with specific
Practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for assisting the clinical team in the provision and delivery of safe and effective care to the practice population.
Duties include:
- Phlebotomy procedures - taking, storing and dispatching accurately labelled specimens
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Long term condition review
- Carrying out ECGs
- Urinalysis
- Vaccinations including influenza and pneumococcal
- maintaining and updating patient records
- associated administrative tasks

Job responsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
- Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse requests and confirming patient agreement to the procedure requested. Procedures to include:
- Blood pressure monitoring
- ECGs
- Urinalysis
- INR monitoring
- Basic dressings
- Height and weight monitoring
- Vaccinations including influenza, pneumococcal and shingles
- Ensuring all specimens are in appropriate containers, accurately labelled and bagged ready for collection by the courier
- Undertaking NHS Health Checks / health monitoring in accordance with established Practice protocols
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patient's health and well-being
- Safely disposing of sharps and other clinical waste
- Ensuring clinical bins are ready for collection and clinical waste collections run smoothly
- Replenish stocks and equipment in consulting and treatment rooms as necessary, including monitoring expiry dates
- Ordering stocks and equipment as required / requested
- Maintaining a high level of hygiene within own work area, ensuring that all equipment is kept clean and in good working order and reporting any problems identified
- Vaccine/ cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Maintaining and updating patient records in accordance with Practice procedures
- Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues or other anomalies
- Liaising with and assisting the wider Practice Team as required to ensure a quality service
- Attending clinical team and Practice meetings as required
- Other related tasks as may be required, providing appropriate training has been given
Responsibilities will be reviewed periodically in line with changing circumstances. Duties and responsibilities may be varied as required by the Partners and Practice Manager, in consultation with the post holder, in order to maintain a high standard, efficient service.
Person Specification Qualifications- Good standard of general education
- Experienced and confident Phlebotomist
- Confirmation of vaccination status or
- willingness to be vaccinated
- IT literate
- Previous experience of ECG and Blood pressure monitoring
- Experience of basic wound care
- Previous experience of administering vaccines
- Experience of Systm One or similar
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- An understanding and acceptance of the need for strict confidentiality
- Good organisational skills
- Positive and cheerful disposition
- Flexible and adaptable
