Job Summary
Acute housing for a motivated and experienced individual to join our Estates & Facilities team as a Waste Compliance Manager. This specialist role will lead on the safe, compliant, and efficient management of healthcare waste across all Trust sites, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, national guidance, and NHS standards while supporting the Trusts environmental sustainability and net zero ambitions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead on the operational oversight of all healthcare waste streams, including clinical, hazardous, offensive, recycling and domestic waste.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidance including HTM 07-01, the Environmental Protection Act, and Duty of Care requirements.
- Monitor, audit, and review waste management practices across all Trust sites.
- Develop, implement, and maintain waste policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Act as the Trusts subject matter expert for waste compliance and environmental management.
- Monitor contractor performance, including waste collection and disposal services.
- Deliver training and awareness programmes to improve waste segregation and compliance.
- Investigate incidents, non‑compliance, and environmental breaches, implementing corrective actions.
- Support delivery of the Trusts Green Plan, contributing to waste reduction, carbon reduction, and sustainability targets.
- Prepare reports and provide assurance to governance groups, regulators, and external auditors.
We are seeking an individual with experience in a waste management, environmental, or compliance role, ideally within healthcare or a regulated environment, and a sound understanding of relevant legislation such as HTM 07-01 and Duty of Care requirements. The candidate should be confident in auditing services, monitoring compliance, and identifying improvements. Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage a varied workload, effective communication skills including delivery of training, and the ability to work independently across multiple sites (Exeter, Barnstaple and all Trust community locations) are essential.
WorkingPattern
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (37.5 hours per week)
