Physician Associate (Medicine)

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated Physician Associates (PAs) to join our team and be part of our PA Graduate Training Programme. These posts are mainly aimed at recently qualified PAs. We have a range of roles which, in the short term, will support our COVID work and be part of our hospital‑wide rotations. You will join our established PA rotations that we hope will develop these roles into career progression posts through developing sub‑speciality interests.
PA rotations cover Medicine (Respiratory, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Healthcare for Older Adults, Neurology, Acute Medicine Unit, Infections/COVID), Surgery, Paediatrics & Gynaecology. A key part of the role is running our COVID Medicines Delivery Unit (CMDU). We also have a large outpatient Parkinson’s Disease service and PAs work closely with PD specialists and consultants in clinic on the acute site and in the community.
Position:
Band 7 with a two‑year fixed‑term contract (may increase with future funding). All posts include supporting our CMDU COVID clinic ortunities exist to participate in our research team. Two PAs currently spend one day a week embedded in our clinical trials team, supporting a diverse range of trials from Parkinson’s to Acute Flu.
As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients stay healthy when they need it most.
Main duties include:
- Participate in hospital‑wide rotations across primary and secondary care specialties.
- Provide clinical support within CMDU including assessment, treatment and prescription of antivirals and IV infusions of nMABS.
- Care for patients with transplants, renal failure, immunodeficiency, oncology and haematological disorders.
- Work closely with pharmacy and nursing teams and other specialist clinicians.
- Support paediatric, obstetric, psychiatry and acute medicine rotations in a broad educational programme.
- Engage in teaching sessions, simulation and CPD activities as part of the PA leadership team.
- Participate in research studies, clinical trials and projects such as major COVID vaccine studies.
30 hours per week. Working days to be confirmed.
Remuneration and benefitsFixed‑term contract until 31/08/2028. Current NHS employees may have a secondment opportunity.
