An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma, Orthopaedics and Rheumatology Hand Therapy Service at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 7 Clinical Lead Therapist (Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist) to lead our Hand Therapy team based at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC) on the main Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) site.

As Clinical Lead Therapist, you will provide joint clinical leadership and operational management for the Hand Therapy team (with the Clinical Lead Hand Therapist – Plastic Rehab), delivering specialist assessment and treatment for patients with trauma, orthopaedic and rheumatological conditions. You will manage a complex clinical caseload, undertaking advanced assessment and treatment planning as an autonomous practitioner. You should possess specialist knowledge and experience across a broad spectrum of hand and wrist conditions, including trauma, rheumatology and elective hand surgery.

Working closely with the Heads of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Professional Leads and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will contribute to the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of specialist hand therapy services. You will play a key role in ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care through the implementation and evaluation of clinical governance processes, including audit, service evaluation, quality improvement and research activities. You will also ensure services reflect current best practice and national guidelines.

A key aspect of the role is providing clinical, professional and educational leadership to the Hand Therapy team, supporting staff development and fostering a positive learning environment. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across both the Eastern and Northern Hand Therapy services to maintain a cohesive and innovative service for patients across the Trust.

In addition to your specialist responsibilities, you will contribute to wider Therapy Department priorities. Clinical caseloads may be flexible to meet service demands and may occasionally include supporting other areas across the Trust. You will also be responsible for helping to resolve staffing and workload challenges, ensuring appropriate risk assessments are undertaken, and escalating relevant information to the Heads of Acute Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy and Operational Manager as required.

Working days will be agreed in line with service and clinic requirements.
