Senior Care Assistant

This is a similar role to that of a care worker but with more responsibilities. You may be supervising and supporting a team of care workers to ensure that a shift runs smoothly, and you will help to develop individual care plans for service users. You may also be tasked with writing rotas, carrying out appraisals, and delivering training sessions to the team.

The average wage for this role in Devon is from £10.39 to £12.85 per hour. Depending on the role, you may be required to work or be on call during the evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. However, there are opportunities to work Monday to Friday.

You will need to have experience of working in care plus qualifications in Health & Social Care, and at least a Level 2 qualification (GCSE or Functional Skills) in maths and English.

You will complete an induction and may have the opportunity to complete the new Level 2 Care Certificate. Continuing professional development options include qualifications such as dementia, end‑of‑life, autism care, learning disabilities, mental health and more.

You can explore apprenticeships to develop your knowledge and understanding at Level 2 Adult care worker, Level 3 Lead adult care worker, Level 4 Lead practitioner in adult care; these apprenticeships can take from 18 months to complete. Or further apprenticeship or degrees such as the Nursing Associate, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker which can take up to two/three years to complete.
