As a Shared Lives Carer you open your life and home to vulnerable people in need. You can offer short‑term or long‑term support, providing care and assistance in all aspects of their life while helping them remain as independent as possible.
Pay and BenefitsYou will be self‑employed and paid weekly, with earnings between £350 and £625. You may also receive contributions towards accommodation and household costs such as food, electricity and water.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive care and support to individuals, covering everyday life needs.
- Help residents maintain their independence.
- Work independently (lone work) while ensuring a supportive environment.
- Excellent communication, observational and listening skills.
- Good verbal, digital, written and numeracy skills.
- Treat people with dignity and respect.
- Ability to work independently.
- Understanding of self‑employment arrangements.
No formal qualifications are required; however, previous experience in a caring setting is beneficial. Candidates must be self‑employed and have a spare room available in their home.
Training and DevelopmentYou will complete an induction and can progress to the Level 2 Care Certificate. Further professional development is available in areas such as dementia, end‑of‑life, autism care, learning disabilities, and mental health. Apprenticeships and higher qualifications (Level 2–4 care roles, Nursing Associate, Occupational Therapist) are also offered.
