We are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals who are keen to provide high-quality administrative and coordination support to clinical services being developed and implemented across the Peninsula Cancer Alliance. These services will be based across Exeter, Torbay, Plymouth and Truro, providing an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative cancer services across the Peninsula.

The Radiotherapy Late Effects Service is a new service being developed to provide compassionate, personalised care and support for patients experiencing the longer-term side effects of radiotherapy treatment. The service will focus on helping patients manage the physical, emotional and wider impacts of late effects, with the primary aim of improving quality of life and supporting people to live well following cancer treatment.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the establishment and smooth running of this developing service, working closely with healthcare professionals across many areas of clinical specialism to ensure patients receive a responsive, coordinated and positive experience.

Main Duties

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the radiotherapy late effects services based in Exeter, Torbay, Plymouth and Truro
  • Be the central point of contact for patients referred to the radiotherapy late effects service
  • Monitor and track patients throughout the late effect’s pathway, ensuring that the patient’s clinical history is available for triage and clinical consultation, all appointments are timely and effectively communicated and onward referrals are appropriately managed
  • Utilise effective communication skills that are responsive to the communication needs of individual patients, frequently needing to use tact, reassurance and sensitivity.
  • Utilise effective communication skills across a range of healthcare services to ensure a seamless care pathway for the individual patient
  • Key responsibilities include organising referrals into the service and assisting with patient triage, collation and recording of patient data, patient tracking and co-ordination of patients’ referrals and appointments
  • Act as a single point of contact for patients, carers and the healthcare team throughout the late effect’s pathway, supporting the delivery of a seamless, high quality and efficient service for patients.
  • Be responsible for the timely management of own workload, demonstrating excellent organisational and IT skill and a high level of attention to detail when handling data to ensure accuracy
  • Collate and produce data and reports for local governance meetings and regional commissioners

The post holder will be based in Exeter, though there may be the occasional requirement to travel to the other sites for the purpose of developing effective working relationships and work streams.

The Oncology Centre is a light, clean and modern space located on the ground floor level of the Royal Devon site in Exeter.

The centre benefits from a charity-run shop providing refreshments to patients and colleagues. Plus, there’s an on-site restaurant, cafes, a take-away service and a Boots.

The friendly and supportive Therapeutic Radiographer team is over 40 people strong, and is focused on delivering exceptional patient focused care and treatment. Up to 100 patients have radiotherapy treatment each day.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week
