The ideal candidate will have a LLB (Hons) degree, be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister, and have experience handling contentious matters.

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive legal service to the Chief Constables, officers, and staff of our client's organisation, as well as the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners
• Offer tactical and strategic advice on a wide range of legal issues
• Collaborate with the three teams within the Legal Services Department :
  Litigation, Operations, and Vulnerability
• Manage caseloads and provide proactive legal advice at a tactical and strategic level
• Handle contentious matters, including civil claims, employment tribunals, inquests, and judicial review applications
• Support operational cases, such as police officer misconduct cases, commercial and disclosure advice, and applications for legal proceedings
• Work on civil preventative orders, collaborating with partner agencies to obtain necessary orders
• Oversee the provision of general advice to officers and staff through the 'duty advice scheme' and review advice drafted by Paralegals

Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience)

• LLB (Hons) degree to second standard, or another degree to upper second standard with commendation if CPE has been passed
• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX

Experience handling contentious matters

• Comprehensive knowledge of legal principles, legislation, case law, legal systems, and police law
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload and provide clear advice
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• High attention to detail and research skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• IT literate with the ability to navigate specialist databases and systems

Desirable (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience)

• Previous experience in a similar legal advisory role
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and adapt to changing circumstances
• Familiarity with relevant technologies and case management systems
