Our client, a leading Southwest law firm is seeking a Legal Cashier to join its Exeter office. The firm is flexible regarding the level of appointment and will consider both experienced candidates and junior applicants looking to build a long-term career in legal finance.

The Role:

This is a key position within the firm, supporting solicitors and ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be organised, numerate, and have a genuine interest in accounting and finance.

The firm is happy to consider either:

  • An experienced Legal Cashier, or
  • A junior candidate who is keen to learn and develop within legal finance
Key Responsibilities:

Depending on experience, duties may include (but will not be limited to):

  • Processing client and office account transactions in line with the Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Posting and allocating receipts and payments
  • Completing bank reconciliations
  • Handling electronic payments
  • Supporting fee earners with finance-related queries
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers

Full training will be provided, and responsibilities will develop over time as confidence and experience grow.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-focused, and demonstrate a positive and proactive approach to work.

For Junior / Entry Level applicants, essential requirements include:
  • GCSE Maths (or equivalent)
  • A strong interest in accounting or finance
  • Excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn
For Experienced applicants:
  • Previous experience as a Legal Cashier or within a legal finance team is desirable
For all applicants:
  • Basic computer literacy and confidence using financial systems
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
  • A professional and approachable manner
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
