The Role You will play a key role within a specialist child law team, handling a broad and rewarding caseload covering both public and private children matters.
The team advises and represents a wide range of clients including children, parents, extended family members and guardians across all stages of proceedings. The work is varied, often complex, and highly rewarding.
Your duties will include:
Managing your own caseload of public law childcare matters, including care proceedings and adoption work Acting on private law children cases such as child arrangements and parental responsibility disputes
Representing clients at court hearings and working closely with counsel where appropriate
Liaising with local authorities, social workers and other professionals involved in proceedings
Preparing legal documentation including statements, applications and court bundles
Providing clear, practical and empathetic advice to clients in sensitive situations
Supporting the wider team and contributing to the continued growth of the department
Candidate Requirements The firm is keen to hear from candidates with a genuine passion for child law and a commitment to delivering excellent client care.
You will ideally have:
Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with experience in child / family law Proven ability to manage a childcare caseload independently, particularly public law matters
Strong knowledge of Legal Aid and experience working within its framework
Confident advocacy skills and experience representing clients in court
Children Panel membership (or working towards accreditation) is highly desirable
Excellent communication and IT skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
