Vacancies Ward Sister/Charge Nurse (Internal Only)
Role SummaryClyst ward is a hyper-acute stroke unit, which directly admits patients 24/7.
As the ward sister/Charge nurse you will be expected to co-ordinate the ward, support the nursing team, and elevate concerns to the CNM and clinical matron. You will work closely alongside the CNM and MDT to ensure the ward is managed appropriately and inclusively.
Due to taking direct admissions 24/7, you will be required to work days, nights and weekends. There has to be a band 6/7 on duty day and night, 7 days a week.
You will be expected to have at least 2 years acute stroke experience, and be able to demonstrate the following skill set:
- Management of caring for acutely unwell patients
- Experience of working within a busy and acute setting
- Cannulation
- Leadership and coordination skills
- Blood transfusion
- Mentorship and training skills

Within this role you will work closely alongside the Stroke practitioners, site practitioners, Stroke support team, Yealm and the palliative care team. You will be required to be able to communicate effectively, and have recognition of pressures outside of the unit, as well as the pressures you will face on the unit.
Clyst is a fast paced ward with a high turnover of patients. You will be responsible for supporting the team to meet the national stroke targets, as well as the trust targets. You will be responsible for supporting with timely treatment and management of our acute stroke patients, and will be exposed to operational pressures, and effective bed management.
Working Pattern:Long days (07:30-20:00) and nights (19:30-08:00). Band 6' s on clyst are required to work weekends and bank holidays. The unit has to be covered 24/7 with a band 6 or 7.
