About Little Valley Animal Shelter

Little Valley Animal Shelter is an independent, self funded branch of the RSPCA, forming the Devon Branch and based just outside Exeter. For over 180 years, Devon RSPCA has supported animals in need, with Little Valley operating as our home since 1990.

We provide a safe, compassionate environment where animals can receive care and rehabilitation before finding their forever homes. With around 50 staff members, more than 100 volunteers, and a network of charity shops across Devon, we are a busy, hands on organisation with animal welfare at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Operative to help maintain our buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities across our 22 acre site and charity shops.

This is a varied, practical role that plays a vital part in keeping Little Valley safe, welcoming, and fully operational for animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across the site and shops, including general repairs, inspections, grounds maintenance, and supporting improvement projects. The role involves working independently, responding to urgent issues when required, and working closely with colleagues, volunteers, and external contractors.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found in the job description below.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking someone with proven experience in general maintenance or property repair, practical skills across multiple trades, a strong understanding of health and safety, and a proactive, positive approach to work. A full UK driving licence is essential.

We offer a generous benefits package, including annual leave that increases with service, pension contributions, occupational sick pay, access to wellbeing support, use of a company vehicle for work purposes, uniform, free on site parking, and staff discounts with Pet Plan.
