Due to continued growth, we are seeking seasonal ecologists to join our established Ecology & Biodiversity team, delivering high‑profile ecological and protected species projects.
Locations: Exeter, Plymouth, Southampton, London, Bristol
Contract: Seasonal (typically now–October)
Salary: Hourly paid
The RoleSLR Consulting are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Seasonal Ecologists to join our growing Ecology & Biodiversity team to support a busy survey season. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in ecological consultancy, working on a wide range of projects across the UK.
You will assist with the delivery of protected species and habitat surveys, working alongside experienced ecologists in a supportive and collaborative environment. The role is largely field‑based, with opportunities to develop technical and consultancy skills.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with a range of protected species surveys (e.g. bats, great crested newts, reptiles, birds and mammals)
- Support habitat surveys including UKHab / Phase 1 surveys and condition assessments
- Collect accurate field data in accordance with established survey methodologies
- Support Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties and site supervision where required
- Assist with basic data entry, mapping and report preparation
- Maintain and care for survey equipment
- Follow health & safety procedures and ecological best practice
We are keen to hear from candidates who:
- Have a degree (or are working towards one) in ecology or a related discipline
- Have an interest in UK wildlife and ecological consultancy
- Demonstrate good species identification skills (or a strong willingness to learn)
- Are organised, reliable and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have good attention to detail and data recording skills
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasionally early mornings to meet survey requirements
- A full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and access to a vehicle
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain
- Previous experience of ecological surveys (academic or voluntary)
- Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation
- Experience with GIS or ecological data handling
- Any protected species licences
