Postdoctoral Research Associate / Fellow

October for a period of 3 years. The starting salary will be from £34,610 on GradeE for the Postdoctoral Research Associate level and from £43,482 on GradeF for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow level, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
The Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow to participate in research quantifying the causes and consequences of variation in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) transmission by migratory birds. The project will involve substantial fieldwork in Ireland and Iceland to study the social dynamics of light‑bellied Brent geese and collect AMR samples from hosts and the environment.
Responsibilities- Quantify the factors that shape individual resistome composition and dynamics using individually‑marked Brent geese.
- Investigate the role of social interactions in shaping direct and indirect transmission of AMR.
- Assess the spatial scales at which migrants can spread AMR, including across different migratory stages.
- Present research progress and outcomes, and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
- Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences and related events.
- Holder of a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study.
- Knowledge in behavioural ecology, host‑microbe interactions and movement ecology.
- Good statistical and bioinformatics skills with experience of field data collection and aspects of animal behaviour research.
- For Fellows: proven track record in behavioural ecology, host‑microbe interactions and movement ecology, and ability to develop research programmes and methodologies.
- For Fellows: ability to work collaboratively, supervise work of others and act as team leader as required.
- Demonstrated publication record (for Fellows).
