Graduate Research Assistant (Part-time, 0.4 FTE)
This fixed‑term contract position is available from 3rd August 2026 until 31 October 2028, funded by NERC. Salary is £33,951 per annum pro rata on Grade E, subject to knowledge, skills and experience. Applications for a higher FTE over a shorter contract length will also be considered on approval.
About the RoleThe Faculty of Health and Life Sciences seeks a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Prof. Darren Croft. The successful applicant will assist with the collection and analysis of video and photographic data in collaboration with the Centre for Whale Research on Southern Resident Killer Whales.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the design, execution and recording of experiments and fieldwork.
- Prepare and administer questionnaires, conduct surveys and support data collection.
- Apply straightforward mathematical modelling, statistical techniques and scientific computation to research data.
- Prepare proposals and applications to external funding bodies.
- Present research progress and outcomes orally, in writing and electronically to internal and external audiences.
- First degree level education or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the discipline and research methods required for established research programmes.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
