An opportunity has arisen for a permanent position to suit a experienced Safeguarding Specialist, who has spent over 6 months within the Trust Safeguarding and MCA team.

You will act as an expert resource on safeguarding issues (children, adults and domestic abuse) providing accessible, accurate and relevant information to staff within the Trust.

You will work with the Head of Safeguarding, Senior Safeguarding Nurses and wider Safeguarding and MCA Team to implement safeguarding services within the Royal Devon University NHS Healthcare Trust including providing accessible, accurate and relevant information to Trust staff, consistent with the requirements of the Trust's safeguarding policies and regulatory and statutory requirem ents

  • To provide advice and support to staff across all disciplines in relation to legislation, policy, local inter-agency structures and procedures for safeguarding adults, children and domestic abuse.
  • To contribute, as required, to individual case discussions and as requested, to attend safeguarding meetings.
  • To deliver training packages relating to safeguarding to Royal Devon staff in accordance with safeguarding policies, legislation, national policies and Intercollegiate guidance and also with reference to local policies and procedures.
  • To develop and maintain links with colleagues in partner agencies and local networks e.g. via the Local Safeguarding Partnership sub groups.
  • To initiate, promote and maintain relationships with partner agencies and community groups to ensure inter-agency working together.
  • To undertake safeguarding audits and contribute to governance processes
  • To deputise for Head of Safeguarding and Senior Safeguarding Specialists as appropriate.
  • To provide relevant information to agencies in line with information governance legislation to enable the safeguarding of adults at risk, children and domestic abuse victims.
  • To attend strategy meetings, case conferences, MARAC meetings and other safeguarding meetings as required
  • To keep up to date with Government and National research findings and developments.
  • The post holder will be expected to champion and raise awareness of safeguarding issues at all levels.
  • To overcome staff and public barriers to understanding around the areas of safeguarding including the assessment of mental capacity.
  • To promote the safeguarding of vulnerable adults, children and domestic abuse victims within the organisation.
  • To maintain an awareness of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • To actively disseminate expertise through participation in local and national groups relevant to the safeguarding agenda.
  • To help to implement or review the processes in place within the organisation for safeguarding and make recommendations for improvements.
  • To take appropriate action to ensure that decisions and recommendations in individual cases are followed through.
  • To work with the Safeguarding Administrators to develop and evaluate systems to gather, analyse and disseminate safeguarding information within the Trust.
  • To attend relevant meetings both internal and external to the organisation.

Working Pattern:

20 Hours to be worked over 3 days to meet the service needs.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers )
