Position: Floating Support Worker (Salary: £25252.58 - £27120.13 per annum, temp, Full Time, Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm) 6 month FTC

BCHA is looking for a Floating Support Worker to join our strong and dynamic team in Exeter. This is a rewarding opportunity to support people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or experiencing challenges that may affect their ability to maintain safe and secure accommodation.

As a Floating Support Worker, you’ll provide personalised, one-to-one support to customers in their own homes and appropriate community settings. You’ll work alongside people to build confidence, develop practical skills and overcome barriers, helping them move towards greater independence, long-term tenancy sustainment and positive wellbeing.

No two days will be the same. You’ll work with a varied caseload and collaborate with partner agencies to find creative solutions that prevent homelessness and rough sleeping.

What you'll be doing
  • Manage a varied caseload, prioritising effectively when faced with competing demands and deadlines.
  • Build trusting, supportive and professional relationships with customers using a Trauma Informed Approach
    .
  • Provide regular one-to-one support through home visits and within appropriate community settings.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies to identify solutions that prevent homelessness and rough sleeping.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with partner agencies, ensuring BCHA is positively represented within the local community.
  • Develop person-centred support plans with customers, regularly reviewing and adapting them to reflect their changing needs, aspirations and goals.
  • Provide advocacy and help customers access appropriate services and support.
  • Support customers with financial inclusion
    , including maximising benefits, developing budgeting skills and signposting to debt management services.
  • Encourage customer involvement and engagement, helping people build confidence, reduce isolation and make positive choices in their lives.
  • Support customers to develop the skills and knowledge needed to maintain their accommodation and live independently.
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns appropriately in line with BCHA's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records and service information within required timescales.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local private landlords to help customers access and sustain long-term tenancies within Exeter's private rented sector.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to the development of the service by sharing knowledge and good practice.
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and development and participate in relevant training.
  • Represent BCHA professionally and positively, acting as a role model and demonstrating our values and behaviours.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role and the needs of the service.

You’ll be confident working with people who may be experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, crisis or a range of support needs. You’ll understand the importance of building trusting relationships and working in a way that recognises each person's individual circumstances, strengths and goals.

You’ll also be organised and able to manage your own caseload, prioritise competing demands and work effectively with a wide range of professionals and external agencies.

Above all, you’ll have a person-centred approach and be committed to treating every customer with dignity, respect and understanding.
