About the Role
This role offers the opportunity to specialise as an Off-Track Operative through a structured 3-year apprenticeship programme. Responsibilities include maintaining, inspecting and repairing land alongside the railway to ensure safety and efficiency. Key activities comprise vegetation management, drainage maintenance, and the upkeep of ancillary structures. Work is safety-critical and often performed close to operational rail lines.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and inspect land alongside the railway for safety and efficiency.
- Manage vegetation and conduct drainage maintenance.
- Upkeep ancillary structures.
- Work safely close to operational rail lines with high-speed trains.
- Participate in structured apprentice training including online sessions and classroom-based learning.
- Team working skills to collaborate with maintenance teams.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proactive planning and punctuality.
- Ability to work under pressure in outdoor conditions with trains passing close by.
- Respect for rules and instructions, with confidence to challenge unsafe situations.
- Willingness to learn and develop competencies.
- Demonstrate commitment to safe behaviour.
- Valid Category B driving licence.
- Permitted to work within a 60‑minute commute of the location.
- Eligible for drug and alcohol testing and medical assessment (including hearing and eyesight).
£32,639 per annum. On-call duties may be required at times.
