The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized MRI equipment to produce computer‑generated diagnostic images that aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. They perform procedures at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; they demonstrate a high degree of technical competency and the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision.
WhatYou Will Do
- Review orders prior to the day of procedure to ensure accuracy and avoid delays in patient care.
- Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure and MR safety while utilizing effective communication.
- Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist the radiologist’s interpretation.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
- Perform MRI procedures as required based on physician’s order.
- Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of MRI and related coils to obtain highest quality images of the anatomy being scanned.
- Start IV, load and operate power injector, and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
- Complete the exam in the hospital information system.
- Clean and maintain all imaging equipment.
- May also assist with mentoring and/or training students and new hires.
- Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology (Required)
- Certificate of MRI technology certification program (Required)
- Minimum one (1) year MRI experience (Preferred)
- Understand and utilize anatomical positioning, physics
- MRI safety
- Critical thinking
- Time management
- Effective communication
- Proficiency in IV access for contrast media administration
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging – American Registry Radiologic Technologist ARRT (MR) certification required or registry eligible (must obtain MR certification within 24 months of hire or transfer date) (Required)
- Basic Life Support Certified – American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two years is required (Required)
- South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association certified (Preferred)
