Principal (Elementary – Kindergarten to 4th Grade)

Reports To:

CEO

Assistant Principals and all other building faculty and staff

Summary

Under the general supervision of the CEO, to provide leadership and supervision in administering the educational program in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with school policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. Students who attend CCS have diverse abilities and backgrounds, requiring a leader that can implement systems to ensure an equitable learning environment for all students, can provide differentiated professional development opportunities, and will create a climate of mutual respect, appreciation, and support for students, staff, and parents.

The position requires a strategic approach to maintaining and growing enrollment, as well as the ability to communicate effectively.

Essential Duties
  • Provide direction, supervision, and evaluation of all assigned faculty and staff
  • Oversees the implementation of the curriculum of CCS, in coordination with the curriculum specialists.
  • Utilize data to analyze program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement
  • Supervision of the CCS New Teacher Induction Program
  • Communicates clearly and efficiently with CCS students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration
  • Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
  • Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students’ information, progress, and records.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and charter requirements, regulations, and laws
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and the PA Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators
  • Be visible within the school building by attending grade-level meetings, responding to behaviors, and completing classroom visits.
  • Oversee Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, Crew, and Building Teams.
  • Lead or co-lead data team meetings with both building leaders and teams of teachers.
  • Oversee scheduling and staff duties.
  • LEA IEP meetings and provide input to IEP teams.
  • Collaborate with the special education department on a regular basis to best serve the students in the building.
  • Oversee and assist in planning of school-wide events and assemblies.
  • Work in coordination with the operations department to create building maps and recommend operational building improvements.
  • Attend K-12 Leadership Meetings and relay information to building leaders.
  • Collaborate with other CCS building leaders to ensure alignment of curriculum, assessments, expectations, and student support systems across the K–12 continuum.
Qualifications
  • Master of Education Degree and PA School Administration (Principal) Certification. If certification is from a different state, PA certification must be obtained within a determined time frame.
  • Experience and demonstrated competence as a school administrator
  • Experience and demonstrated competence training and/or mentoring teachers
  • Knowledge of PA Department of Education Learning Standards and Charter School Law
  • Understanding of IDEA and PA Special Education Regulations
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, documents, professional literature, and government regulations
  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision
  • Effective leadership abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbal and written responses to inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to understand and communicate data and statistics for educational research and program management
  • Ability to solve practical problems, take initiative, and deal with a variety of variables
