Specialist Actuary, E&S

We are seeking a highly driven, credential led actuary to ensure AXA XL remains a leader in the field of E&S technical pricing and portfolio management.

The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate across functions with technical skills to support evolving pricing and analytic needs to drive profitability.

Responsibilities
  • Provide decision making guidance throughout the underwriting process using advanced analytics to drive superior business performance.
  • Support and enhance technical pricing and portfolio management capabilities for E&S lines including development, testing and calibration of pricing models and dashboards alongside the Models team.
  • Portfolio management activities including selection of base loss ratio for business planning, profitability studies and deep dives, dashboard maintenance and post‑event loss evaluation.
  • Account case pricing and effectively communicate selections to underwriters.
  • Regular metrics reporting such as the monthly renewal price monitor.
  • Reinsurance support as needed including data calls and treaty analysis.
  • Conduct training for underwriters regarding actuarial models and methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with pricing guidelines and help drive appropriate consistency in pricing.
Qualifications
  • Actuarial accreditation; ACAS or near‑ACAS preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, applied math, statistics or related field.
  • Relevant work experience in non‑life insurance pricing.
  • Very good attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manipulate large datasets; technical aptitude with programming experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Access required; experience with R, Python, Shiny apps, SQL, Qlikview or other programming languages in a commercial environment.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work under pressure as well as deliver to deadlines.
  • Adaptability, critical thinking and creativity to solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to gain buy‑in and communicate clearly with underwriters and colleagues.
  • Excellent written communication skills and collaborative work ethic.

Salary

U.S. base salary range: USD 85,000 – 149,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
