The Clinical Support Representative (CSR) supports the practice by performing clinical and administrative duties, including assisting patients in exam rooms, updating documentation, and cleaning and sterilizing equipment.
Accountabilities Patient Care Accountabilities- Promptly room patients, using EMR to alert provider that patient is ready
- Act as chaperone or patient observer during appointments or procedures when requested by patients
- Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, undressing, and preparation for the exam; remain in the exam room when necessary or requested
- Provide patient support during procedures, including serving as witness for procedural consents when required
- Respond appropriately to emergency or code situations
- Provide patients with follow‑up care instructions as instructed by provider
- Obtain and scan documents as appropriate for the visit (test results, faxes, reports, notes, referrals, etc.)
- Complete medical forms and other requests for information as required; prepare and send patient correspondence as needed
- Assist clinical staff with the maintenance of patient education materials
- Perform call‑backs as directed by provider and manager
- Adhere to universal precautions and infection control policies; dispose of infectious waste properly and use appropriate hand‑washing techniques
- Ensure that patient care areas are neat, orderly, well stocked, and properly prepared
- Clean and disinfect instruments and equipment according to protocols; check that instruments are in proper working order, notify supervisor of malfunctions
- Set up equipment and instruments as per practice protocol; restock as needed
- Manage access to secured areas for stocking and maintaining items such as intravenous solutions and medication preparation supplies
- Maintain medication storage closet inventory and security; check expiration dates and remove outdated items
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards (TJC, DOH, FDA, HIPAA, HCFA, DPW, LCGME, SCGME, etc.)
- Adapt to new processes and practice operation changes flexibly and readily
- Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
- HS Diploma/GED (Required)
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program (Preferred)
- 1+ years of related experience (Preferred)
