Position Title:
High School Physics Teacher

Summary: Under the general supervision of the School Director, develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including Physics, general science, and electives related to STEM education. This role focuses on developing students' Engineering and Science practices, problem-solving abilities, and understanding the application of science in practical problem-solving.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Masters preferred)
  • New Jersey Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization:
    Physics.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Working knowledge of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Understanding of the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, and learning/motivational techniques.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation about performance and professional growth.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of grade-specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work: parents, students, faculty, etc.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of science subject areas, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, and other related areas (e.g., mathematics).
  • Before employment, the following must be addressed:

  • A criminal history background check is required to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense.
  • Provide evidence that health can adequately fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation under 42 U.S.C. 12101 and by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
  • Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.

  • Teach knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science in accordance with the district curriculum.
  • Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Understand NGSS and develop lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, translating lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence, including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
  • Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
