Art Teacher Elementary

Position Title:
Art Teacher (Elementary School)

Summary:

To provide an approved education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth. To develop students' interest, abilities, talents and skills for artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts, as well as aesthetic understanding and appreciation by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to performing assigned tasks;

providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification (CE,CEAS) with subject matter specialization:
    Art
  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and Subject Area Endorsement or eligibility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
  • Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school related matters
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students and faculty etc.
  • Compliance with background checks and necessary health and safety requirements as required by policy

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Works to achieve state core curriculum content standards and charter school educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning and skills development in the classroom.
  • Takes responsibility for developing lesson plans and instructional materials and provides opportunities for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs
  • Sets specific objectives in lesson preparation and ensures they are carried through in presentation
  • Assesses pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction
  • Maintains records of pupil's educational progress and reports as required
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff in addressing learning problems
  • Maintains standards of pupil behavior to create a conducive learning environment
  • Communicates with parents regarding pupil progress
  • Is responsible for the preparation and evaluation of assignments and tests
  • Supervises pupils in classroom and related activities
  • Encourages art room care and cleanliness
Meetings and Professional Development
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education and growth activities
  • Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings and committees
  • Utilizes community resources to enhance the instructional program
  • Upholds school rules, regulations and board policies
  • Instructs pupils in art appreciation and fundamentals of creating artistic items; prepares participatory lesson plans; selects materials; demonstrates methods; evaluates progress; accompanies students on field trips; conducts virtual art museum trips; may supervise art exhibitions and contests
Additional Notes

Experience:

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred. Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment. Travel:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with state law and board policies.

School Director. Supervises:
Students, and when assigned, student teachers and classroom aides.
