Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 48 college credits or completion of a Para Professional Assessment
  • Current State of Alaska Teaching Certificate (for certified applicants)
  • High school diploma or 48 credits qualifies as a Non‑Certified applicant
  • Current Initial, Professional, or Master’s teacher certificate qualifies as a Certified applicant
  • Ability to understand and follow directions; maintain effective classroom‑management strategies and establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
Hourly Rate
  • $18.00/hr – Non‑Certified applicant (high school diploma only)
  • $20.00/hr – Non‑Certified applicant with 48 credits or Para Professional Assessment
  • $24.00/hr – Certified applicant with a current Alaska Teaching Certificate
Work Week

Substitute employees are employed on an as‑needed, on‑call, day‑to‑day basis and are not guaranteed work on a regular basis.

Job Responsibilities

Maintain effective classroom management while engaging and aware of students; follow directions and work collaboratively with staff and students.

  • Provide at least three professional references (two must be current or previous supervisors). Provide valid email addresses; reference forms will be sent via e‑mail.
  • Review reference status in your Frontline Applicant Tracking account.
  • Once references are complete, the recruiting team will contact you with a New Hire Packet (Docu Sign) and a Background Authorization Form.
  • Complete the background check.
  • Attend orientation and provide the following documents:
    I‑9, bank documents for direct deposit, transcripts if applicable, and $49 for fingerprints (cash, check, credit card, or money order).

    Additional Information

    Substitute teachers, aides, and temporary workers are at‑will employees of the school district. Applicants must attend orientation and be approved by human resources prior to working.
