PositionEducation Associate 3 – located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
What You’ll Be DoingUnder general direction from the refuge manager, you will plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate and conduct interpretation, education, and other public programs about the natural history of Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. Your work will emphasize the ecology of mammalian and avian wildlife and develop strategies to educate all ages about refuge resources, public use opportunities, wildlife, habitat, principles of wildlife management, and multiple uses of Creamer’s Refuge.

Working ConditionsThe office is located in the Creamer’s Field farmhouse visitor center. The role blends indoor and outdoor work, including curriculum development and leading field trips for school groups. Candidates must be personable, able to interact with the public, school children, colleagues, work independently, and have ample opportunity to develop their own educational programs and events.
- Field work may involve exposure to large animals, insects, inclement weather; lifting or carrying 50 pounds or more; and possible travel by small aircraft, boat, or skiff.
- Work may require evenings and weekends.
- General knowledge of educational principles, curriculum development, instructional methods, school administration, and research.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholder groups; clear oral and written communication; understanding of operating policies.
- Strong foundation in wildlife management, including taxonomy, population dynamics, species distribution, habitat requirements, life histories, reproductive strategies, behavior, and conservation practices.
- Experience in conservation/environmental education, interpretation, or related fields with the ability to translate natural history concepts into clear, concise information for diverse audiences.
- Energy and enthusiasm for working with large and small groups, including children and adults.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Training Provided- First Aid Training & CPR
- ADF/G firearms and wildlife safety training
- Minimum educational and experiential requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education, plus one year of experience as an Education Associate 2 with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.
- Six years of experience in broad education, counseling, or administrative services, two of which are technical/paraprofessional.
- Any combination of the above. Graduate study may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Undergraduate study may substitute for generalized experience in option 2 on a year‑for‑year basis.
