Job Description & How to Apply Below

Join UAF’s Office of Finance and Accounting (OFA) and put your love of spreadsheets, system access requests, and financial detective work to good use! In this role, you’ll wrangle access across Banner, RPTP, QMENU, and Vista Plus; deliver routine and “surprise!” ad‑hoc fiscal reports; and help shape UAF’s annual Continuation Budget. You’ll craft monthly management reports, dive into complex financial analyses, forecast year‑end commitments with uncanny accuracy, and partner with departments to keep budget variances on track.

As the mastermind behind Foundation Fund Expense Account (FFEA) setups, you’ll also serve as the go‑to liaison with the UA Foundation. Add in training and expert support for financial managers across UAF, and you become the campus’s trusted fiscal superhero—cape optional, strong stewardship required.

About the Position

The UAF Office of Finance and Accounting (OFA) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Budget Analyst. The successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of accounting theory, generally accepted accounting principles, and the rules and regulations associated with fiscal activities and compliance requirements. This position requires strong analytical, research and problem‑solving skills, along with good written and oral communication, self‑directing skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize a diversified workload.

The ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus from staff in other departments is vital. The candidate should be able to synthesize information into comprehensive reports and formulate unique and creative solutions for problems, using expert knowledge of data analysis support tools including Excel.

The successful candidate will be a detail‑oriented, analytical professional who enjoys working within complex financial and administrative systems. Four years of progressively responsible professional fiscal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, will provide a strong background for this position. Success in this position means being both a reliable producer of high‑quality fiscal reports and a forward‑thinking collaborator who identifies evolving reporting needs.

Day‑in‑the‑Life

Starting your day by diving into UAF’s financial systems, reviewing data, validating entries, and ensuring the fiscal reports you produce are accurate, timely, and ready to support decision‑makers across campus. Throughout the day, you’ll develop and refine a variety of fiscal reports, collaborate with colleagues, answer questions, and provide technical guidance to financial managers who rely on your expertise to navigate complex processes.

Whether you’re granting or troubleshooting system access, offering training, or stepping in to support a unit during a busy period, your service‑minded approach helps strengthen financial operations across the institution.

Qualifications
