Position: Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 (Multi-PCN)

The recruitment is exempt from the hiring freeze (Administrative Order 358).

This recruitment is open to Alaska Residents only. Applicants must meet Alaska Residency Requirements in order to be considered for employment at this time.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Maintain positivity and resiliency while providing support for the field enforcement units of the Department of Public Safety at the Alaska State Troopers Northen Operations Center.

  • Display professionalism, compassion, and support to all individuals contacted in the line of duty. This includes, but is not limited to, the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers.

  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service via radio and phone for areas throughout the State of Alaska.

The Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 position is based in Fairbanks, located at 1979 Peger Road in a secure facility. The work environment is fast‑paced – we answer more than 135,000 calls per year. Each day is dynamic with the opportunity to interact with people from many different backgrounds and provide life‑saving assistance in many challenging situations. You will be part of a team of dispatchers who truly are the heart of the telecommunications services provided by the Department of Public Safety.

Two years of work experience. This experience must include six months of experience that entails clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs. AND The ability to type at a net speed of 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute. OR Any combination of education from an accredited college (three semester hours or four quarter hours equal one month of experience), vocational education (150 hours equal one month of experience), and/or work experience may substitute for up to 18 months of non‑specific work experience.

Specific positions in this job class may require incumbents to be Emergency Medical Certified, Emergency Police Certified, or Emergency Fire Dispatch Certified.

Shift work may be required.

A background investigation will be required upon initial employment.
