• Maintain positivity and resiliency while overseeing the daily operations of subordinate dispatch personnel.
• Model the highest level of professionalism, compassion, and support to individuals contacted in the line of duty, including the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers.
• Display the ability to perform all duties of subordinate staff.
• Train, mentor, build, and lead a high‑performing team in a high‑stress, fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment.

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an emergency dispatch center.
• Ability to work shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Effective communication skills in stressful or emergency situations.
• Experience training, leading, building, and directing teams with positive interpersonal skills.
• Background investigation required upon initial employment.

• Specific positions in this job class may require incumbents to hold Emergency Medical, Police, or Firefighting Dispatch certification.
• Communications Training Officer Certification (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire) is required.
• Shift work may be required.
• Individuals must multitask and maintain emotional control to work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations, and/or extremely stressful conditions.

The Emergency Services Dispatcher 2 position is based in Fairbanks at 1979 Peger Road. The work environment is fast‑paced – handling over 135,000 calls per year. Each day is dynamic with the opportunity to interact with people from many backgrounds and provide life‑saving assistance in challenging situations.

The incumbent must submit to a fingerprint‑based criminal history background check. A criminal conviction prevents further progression in the selection process. The successful candidate will also read, understand, and agree to sign a confidentiality agreement regarding the work encountered within the Department of Public Safety.
