Overview

The Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) is seeking a full-time Fiscal Manager to join our Business Office. IAB supports over 150 faculty and staff conducting research throughout Alaska and the Arctic, supported by federal, state, and other external funding sources.

As Fiscal Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the fiscal health of IAB. Working closely with the Director and Executive Officer, you’ll manage IAB’s budget, financial forecasting, and reporting. You’ll be relied upon daily for fiscal oversight, such as compliance and approving expenditures; monthly for management reporting; and annually for continuation budget planning.

This position supervises one staff member and is a part of IAB’s Business Office, a cohesive team that supports IAB research through post-award management, human resources, procurement, and administrative support for our centers and programs.

Responsibilities
  • Manage IAB’s budget, financial forecasting, and reporting; provide fiscal oversight, including compliance and approving expenditures; monthly management reporting; and annual continuation budget planning.
  • Supervise one staff member and collaborate with IAB’s Business Office to support post-award management, human resources, procurement, and administrative support for centers and programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 3 years of professional fiscal experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems; proficient understanding of GAAP; budget forecasting; ability to supervise; strong spreadsheet, data reporting, and project management skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
