Responsibilities
  • Perform supervisory and administrative functions within the Delivery Department.
  • Train new and existing delivery drivers in the proper delivery procedures, including routes, double check procedure, checkup procedure, pre-trip inspection, shortages, mispicks, returns, etc.
  • Work with Transportation Manager to learn all tasks associated with the Delivery department.
  • Maintain compliance with the Fleet Safety Manual; perform driver rides with and evaluate drivers based on Fleet Safety criteria and customer service.
  • Maintain records relating to Fleet Safety policy and perform periodic reports to management on accidents.
  • Review driver eligibility annually and as needed to ensure compliance with the Fleet Safety Manual.
  • Assist in accident investigations and determine preventability; analyze accidents to identify preventive actions.
  • Ensure DOT physicals, drug and alcohol tests are performed as necessary; maintain proper documentation and status spreadsheets.
  • Stay abreast of all DOT regulations and notify the Transportation Manager of non-compliance.
  • Maintain Commercial Driver Certification folders with current documents as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). driver physicals and random drug screens with local healthcare providers.
  • Maintain CDL logs, log books, and related files; audit driver logs and educate on proper completion.
  • Retain DVCRs and ensure timely corrections to keep the fleet safe.
  • Prepare weekly trip records and enter miles and hours into Target Data System daily.
  • Evaluate routes for efficiency and discuss potential changes with Transportation Manager and Sales Manager.
  • Deliver routes as needed; schedule and modify route assignments; align customers on routes in the absence of Transportation Manager.
  • Adjust delivery schedules for holidays and school calendars; plan ahead for holidays.
  • Work with DSRs and Sales Manager on route alignment; review driver route sheets each morning for shortages and mistakes.
  • Coordinate with sales and purchasing to retrieve product for customers promptly.
  • Maintain readiness of mobile devices; be available as needed and keep devices in proximity.
  • Purchase both on-road and off-road diesel fuel in the absence of the Transportation Manager.
  • Complete service/repair authorizations to initiate maintenance actions in Manager Plus.
  • Ensure delivery equipment is properly maintained; inspect and address issues as needed.
  • Deliver odd routes as required; comply with DOT regulations; negotiate rates and contracts with third-party carriers when needed.
  • Complete walk-around inspections and route sheets for each route; ensure equipment is maintained and safe.
  • Deliver product in good condition; resolve customer issues promptly with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Willingness to work in other departments when Delivery workload is light.
  • Fuel trucks on regular intervals; manage safe driving practices and compliance.
  • Serve as backup on Peachtree Logistics; assist in budgeting for the Delivery department and adhere to approved budgets and expenditures.
  • Review and process legally binding documents per Operational Policy 179; involve VP, Division President, and CEO as required.
  • Submit training documentation to Human Resources and maintain training records for team members.
  • Train team members on USDOT, FMCSA, and Alabama Department of Public Safety regulations; maintain compliance.
  • Develop a tracking spreadsheet for drivers’ self-certification progress and compliance dates accessible to leadership and HR.
