As Canada’s fastest-growing group retirement provider, we serve members and employers in every province, partnering closely with advisors to deliver an intuitive, user-focused retirement platform. Our work is powered by a collaborative team and guided by our core values — creating value for clients, doing quality work, learning continuously, harnessing each other’s strengths, and taking ownership.
Aboutthe Role
Reporting to the Head of Product and working closely with engineering and product managers, you’ll play a key role in designing thoughtful, accessible, and visually consistent user experiences that support our strategic goals. You’ll be both a maker and a leader — crafting excellent design work while building design practices that elevate quality, clarity, and trust across the product.
How We Work with AIAt Common Wealth, we use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate iteration, spark creativity, and enhance collaboration across design, product, and engineering. Tools like Bolt and Lovable help us prototype faster, explore multiple ideas, and bring stakeholders into the design process earlier — all while keeping our users’ needs front and center. We're intentional about how we incorporate AI into our workflows and product experiences, ensuring everything we ship meets our high bar for usability, accessibility, and trust.
For us, AI is a means to elevate the quality of our work, not replace the craft behind it.
- Translate product goals and user needs into intuitive interfaces, flows, and experiences that adhere to our design principles.
- Create and share multiple concepts and prototypes, using low-fidelity sketches or whiteboarding early on to engage stakeholders, invite feedback, and bring others along in your thinking — and applying higher fidelity where deeper clarity or precision is needed.
- Design and maintain our component library and visual standards, supporting accessibility, scalability, and consistency.
- Collaborate closely with front-end engineers to ensure accurate implementation of design, including QA and regression support.
- Write clear, purposeful UX copy aligned with our tone and product vision.
- Lead user research processes (e.g., usability testing, interviews, surveys), drawing insights that inform product design priorities and experience design.
- Work with PMs to build regular rhythms for customer feedback through continuous discovery.
- Using a combination of customer feedback, data, competitive and industry research to inform product design decisions.
- Take ownership of full design cycles — from early exploration to final QA — on key features and flows.
- Drive improvements in high-impact areas such as member facing transaction flows, advisor tools, member planning tools, and employer experience.
- Ensure experiences meet high standards for trust, usability, and compliance in a regulated, mission-critical domain.
- Run monthly internal design shares to showcase work and deepen team empathy for users.
- Mentor peers in design thinking and user-centered practices.
- Help reinforce a culture of learning, quality, and ownership within and beyond the design function.
- 4–6+ years of experience in product or UX design, ideally in fintech, SaaS, or high-growth environments.
- Expertise in Figma and modern design tools, with hands‑on experience using AI-enabled prototyping tools (e.g., Bolt, Lovable) to accelerate design workflows and user testing.
- Strong ability to prototype, iterate, and communicate design concepts across various fidelity levels.
- Deep experience collaborating with product managers and engineers in agile teams, balancing user value with technical and business constraints.
- Strong communication skills — able to present, advocate, and align stakeholders around design decisions.
- Experience leading or contributing to user research, including usability testing, interviews, and insights translation.
- Thoughtful attention to detail, and a drive to create purposeful, quality work that aligns with user and business value.
- Bonus: experience designing for regulated industries, financial products, or B2B2C platforms.
