Director of Development

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a large, high‑volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45+ attorneys across seven offices. We help thousands of clients each year in civil legal matters while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, local law firms, pro‑bono attorneys, bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low‑income and neediest populations.

We are seeking a full‑time Director of Development to join our dedicated team. This hybrid position is preferably based at our Fairfax office.

The Director will develop and execute a coordinated fundraising strategy, cultivate new opportunities and resources, increase and diversify existing fundraising programs including a multi‑year campaign, and support our Board of Directors, campaign committee members, and staff in cultivating and tracking relationships with existing and potential financial supporters. They will also help LSNV develop and convey persuasive messaging about the organization’s mission and accomplishments to increase fundraising success.

Functions
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including identification, attraction, and retention of major donors for a multi‑year campaign.
  • Design and implement fundraising programs and events.
  • Research potential donors and contacts.
  • Coordinate meetings with donors and potential donors of LSNV, including necessary follow‑up.
  • Coordinate and enlist volunteers for “friend‑raising” events.
  • Work closely with LSNV’s Executive Director, staff, Board of Directors, and campaign committee members to support fundraising efforts.
  • Create and disseminate electronic and print fundraising and promotional materials (e.g., brochures, newsletters, social media posts, annual reports).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel:
    Periodic local travel may be required.
