Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Outpatient Lung Transplant – Inova Health

Job Overview
The Inova Outpatient Lung Transplant Team seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide independent, patient‑centered care in an outpatient setting. The role involves assessment, diagnosis, initiation of medical procedures, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in accordance with Virginia licensure regulations.

5 eight‑hour shifts, Monday through Friday (no weekends or holidays)

Job Responsibilities

  • Practice safe and effective standards of care and ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards
  • Communicate appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers
  • Develop and revise differential diagnoses and care plans based on data collection and patient findings
  • Interpret laboratory, imaging, and other pertinent data; review the plan of care with the interdisciplinary team, patient, and family
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to care, including impacts on health status, functional status, nutrition, sleep, and social relationships; establish health‑promotion strategies
  • Assume clinical management for the specialty patient population in collaboration with physicians
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping: complete and pertinent histories, physicals, pre‑operative and progress notes, discharge summaries, and data sheets
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students
  • Participate in departmental and system‑wide quality improvement initiatives and cost‑saving strategies
  • Assist in developing and revising patient population standards and integrating evidence‑based research findings into practice
  • Engage in clinical research and data collection; support projects for continuous specialty development
  • Provide educational programs to improve staff knowledge
  • Proactively assist peers with work tasks
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support certification upon start;
    Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (RN Compact License required for Nurse Practitioners in Virginia);
    Practice agreement and written scope of practice signed by supervising physician; DEA license for prescribing controlled substances if applicable
  • Board certification (Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) with current CME requirements
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing and Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice, or equivalent postgraduate certificate; accredited program for either clinical discipline

Preferred Qualifications
Prior transplant experience among Advanced Practice Providers (any organ).
