The Telephone Triage RN ensures that patients and other customers receive quality and efficient clinical service, facilitating a seamless patient experience between office visits. The RN is responsible for responding to patient calls in a professional, courteous, and prompt manner.

Responsibilities:

• Log in and out of the call center system as scheduled.
• Answer triage phone calls courteously and promptly.
• Provide friendly and empathetic telephone service, addressing medical questions, concerns, or symptoms with prompt resolution.
• Appropriately triage calls and escalate concerns to providers when necessary.
• Assist with appointment scheduling as needed.
• Follow established policies and procedures.
• Document all patient interactions clearly and accurately in the EMR.
• Update patient information (demographics, medications, history) in the EMR as needed.
• Adhere to service level goals to ensure efficient patient service.
• Provide patient education as appropriate.
• Inform patients of test results following Virginia Heart protocols.
• Participate in emergency resuscitative efforts when in the office setting.
• After passing the Prescription Refill Authorization Competency Exam, authorize prescription refills under provider supervision.
• After passing the Anticoagulation Management Competency Exam, perform anticoagulation therapy management.

Requirements:

• Successful completion of a Registered Nurse program.
• Current Virginia State RN license or valid Compact State License to work in Virginia.
• Ability to commit to a full-time position.
• 2-3 years of clinical experience managing cardiac patients preferred.
• Experience in a triage call center preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR), preferably EPIC.
• Must pass the competency exams for prescription refill authorization, anticoagulation management, and triage before working independently.
