Lead Installer (Residential/Light Commercial)

Reports To: Field Supervisor or General Manager

Position Status: Full-time, Regular position

Job Summary

Responsible for the complete and satisfactory installation of residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensures complete customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers, trains other installers, performs install work on more difficult situations, and assists the Field Supervisor or General Manager on work audits, site supervision, and work planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install HVAC equipment and accessories under direction of Field Supervisor or General Manager.
  • Operate heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment and accessories in accordance with company requirements and manufacturer specifications, performing limited diagnostics as needed.
  • Design, fabricate, and install various ducts and duct fittings.
  • Perform start‑ups on air conditioning and heating systems and other components.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and sustain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Promote products and services to customers and coordinate with Sales and Service Coordinator for replacement product sales leads.
  • Ensure delivery and removal of equipment needed to complete installation work.
  • Maintain company property, vehicles, and tools and keep them properly used, maintained, and accounted for.
  • Complete all paperwork neatly, accurately, thoroughly, and timely, and collect payment from customers.
  • Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically.
  • Keep installation vehicle clean and presentable.
  • Follow standard procedures, stock vehicles, manage warranty parts, and replenish supplies.
  • Assist Field Supervisor or General Manager with site supervision, planning, estimating, and quality audits.
  • Train other installers in technical skills and company procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as needed or assigned.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Report unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards immediately.
  • Report legislative or policy violations immediately.
  • Correct substandard acts or conditions within area of control.
  • Use and maintain appropriate PPE as prescribed.
  • Never remove or render ineffective safety guards, devices, or clothing.

  • Operate devices or equipment as prescribed.
  • Participate in safety initiatives, teams, or committees.
  • Report injuries or incidents immediately.
  • Provide input on developing safety initiatives and plans.
  • Avoid actions that endanger safety of others.
  • Avoid pranks, contests, or rough behavior.
  • Work in compliance with applicable legislative requirements.

Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with additional training; 5+ years of HVAC experience; technical training certification required.
  • Valid licensing or certification as required by local regulations.
  • EPA and safety certifications required.
  • Proficiency in fundamentals of heating, air conditioning, ventilation equipment and related accessories.
  • Advanced skills installing HVAC equipment and accessories.
  • Proficient in layout and installation of duct work and fitting specifications.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and tool operation proficiency.
  • Advanced skills reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant, and duct system problems.
  • Ability to start up and balance airflow, align belts and pulleys with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced skills installing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water, steam boilers, humidifiers, etc.
  • Calculate heat gain and loss on buildings using approved methods.
  • Effective communication, customer service, and problem‑resolution skills.
  • Effective time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Availability for flexible hours and on‑call shifts.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions (hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, etc.).
  • Capable of climbing ladders rated for 300lb…
