Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a Field Testing Technician Level II to join our Field Testing team in Fairfax, Virginia. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the building enclosure testing industry!
Shift/ScheduleMonday – Friday with travel most weeks. 1st shift with occasional 2nd shift projects. Employees paid for all travel time.
What you’ll do- Lead field testing projects, data collection and report writing
- Set up for testing including rough carpentry work to construct test chambers
- Run equipment inside buildings and work with customers while testing occurs
- Operate high‑reach lift equipment (boom lifts, supported and suspended scaffolding)
- Assist with forensic investigations of building envelope failures (isolation work on exterior)
- Communicate with clients and project team regarding site observations and test preparation on all projects assigned
- Provide project planning once on site for needed elements such as water, electricity and access by communicating with clients and project team
- Travel with overnight stays (company covers all travel expenses plus per diem)
- Perform physical work relevant to areas of responsibility as assigned
- High school diploma or GED Equivalent
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in commercial construction, building envelope or fenestration
- Ability to learn the building envelope including wall cladding systems, curtain wall, window and door systems, waterproofing, roofing, etc. and their installation means and methods
- Working knowledge of test methods and standards associated with testing of these systems or ability to learn and comprehend these standards
- Aptitude for working independently and leading a crew on assigned projects
- Technical competency and ability to effectively communicate with customers and co‑workers, both in writing and orally
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet changing priorities and strict deadlines
- Good computer skills – Microsoft Office & Outlook
- Ability to perform work from ladders, boom‑lifts, roof levels, etc.
- Ability to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull as needed
- Willingness to travel locally and/or overnight 75% of the time or more
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Associate’s degree or higher; related field preferred
