Communication Apprentice with Security Clearance
The Communications Apprentice role at M.C. Dean is an entry‑level position that trains candidates to install and maintain basic communication equipment.
OverviewAt M.C. Dean, we design, build, operate, and maintain cyber‑physical solutions for mission‑critical facilities and enterprises. Our 7,000+ person organization spans electrical, electronic security, telecommunications, and IT. This apprenticeship will build technical skills in communication technology while providing hands‑on field experience.
Responsibilities- Assist in pulling various types of wiring and low‑voltage cable.
- Support site grounding, prefabricated assembly installation, core drilling, and cable‑tray installation.
- Assist with installation of devices and cabling for telecom.
- Maintain a clean work area and secure company tools daily.
- Participate in monthly tool checks and job‑site cleanup.
- Use hand tools such as drill motors, sawzalls, hydraulic knockouts, and electrician snips.
- Wear all personal safety equipment and follow safety policies.
- Read and understand activity hazard analysis and ensure proper rwook use of tools.
- Follow storage and safeguarding practices for materials and equipment.
- Assist in pulling telecom wire of all sizes and participate in daily work briefings.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be 18 years of age and have reliable transportation to the jobsite and school.
- Willingness to attend evening school 1–2 nights per week for three years.
- Must be able to obtain a US Secret clearance.
- 40‑hour per week with expected overtime; potential travel up to 50% of the time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and relocate a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
- Ability to work at heights up to 60 ft on scaffolds, aerial lifts, or catwalks.
- Good vision, hearing, and English speaking ability.
- Ability to recognize safety problems, apply rules, and use common reasoning.
- Experience assisting with fiber optics.
- Vocational training.
- Basic hand‑tool set including snips and punch‑down tool.
