Description
Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District (FSSD) is currently seeking a candidate to fill a full-time position as a Utility Worker.
If you are looking to start a career in the Wastewater Industry, this may be a great opportunity for you! Our utility worker does a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work throughout the plant to support the overall plant, facilities, and grounds. This is an entry level position with several opportunities for growth and learning.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- A desire to work in the wastewater industry.
- A strong drive to learn and further develop skills to allow opportunities for growth and progression.
- Helps keep the District looking great by maintaining landscaping and grounds, including mowing, trimming, pruning, and keeping walkways, parking lots, and outdoor areas clean.
- Performs hands-on facility maintenance such as repairing fences and roads, maintaining irrigation systems, completing work orders, and assisting with general upkeep of buildings.
- Works alongside maintenance staff to inspect and perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, pumps, motors, and mechanical systems.
- Assists with sewer collection system work, including cleaning and inspecting sewer lines.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The Utility Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the routine maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment plant, facilities, grounds, pump stations, and vehicles to ensure clean, orderly, and safe operating conditions in compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and standard operating procedures. The duties of this classification involve work which is physical in nature and requires familiarity with general laborer tasks.
This classification may be required to operate some types of mobile and general construction equipment and vehicles.
The Utility Worker is a stand-alone class. Incumbents may work independently or within a team to perform work which primarily involves landscaping maintenance of the plant facility, as well as performing preventative maintenance on equipment and plant facilities, forklift/tractor operation, and assisting operations and maintenance staff as required. This position is designed as a developmental class, serving as a potential steppingstone toward the Maintenance Mechanic I classification.
