Talent Manager, HR Manager, Employee Relations
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking an experienced full-time Human Resources Generalist to become an important part of a growing team for its Administrative offices in Pawcatuck, CT. This position is responsible for supporting and administering the company’s Human Resources programs, policies and procedures in a legally compliant manner while balancing the unique, strategic needs of a company that provides agile advanced technology solutions for emerging challenges in both national security and commercial markets.
APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. At APS you will work in a small company environment where technical and administrative excellence are rewarded and an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged. This position will allow applicants to make meaningful contributions to the APS mission.
- Strategic Partnership: Partner with key stakeholders to translate business objectives into high-impact, data-driven people strategies that drive innovation, speed, and organizational effectiveness. Support change management, workforce planning, and organizational development for long-term success.
- Talent Management: Oversee, manage, and guide leaders through the full talent management cycle, including performance reviews, employee development, performance management, promotions, and talent planning.

Coaching:
Provide expert coaching and counsel to leaders on complex employee relations matters, performance management, conflict resolution, and leadership development. - Staffing: Collaborate with hiring managers to understand current and future staffing needs, participate in recruitment efforts, including candidate outreach, conducting interviews, and assessing candidate qualifications. Manage onboarding processes to ensure new employees have an exceptional experience and are set up for short-term and long-term success.
- Culture and Inclusion: Actively foster company values, cultivating inclusion through intentional leadership and mechanisms that support a strong sense of belonging.
- Employee Relations: Utilize an empathetic approach to understand employee concerns, answer questions, and help employees navigate available resources. Conduct thorough and timely investigations into employee complaints and disciplinary matters, providing recommendations for resolution and partnering with stakeholders as appropriate.
- Compliance & Reporting: Contribute to the development of HR policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations and audit processes (e.g., AA/EEO, I-9 audits, FMLA, ADA, wage and labor laws). Uphold the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of human resource records.
- Pay and Benefits: Contribute to the oversight and administration of compensation programs, employee benefits, and payroll processes.
- HR Excellence: Support implementation of HR information systems or modifying current systems/processes to streamline workflow and drive continuous improvement.

- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience in related fields
- 5+ years of relevant HR experience, preferably in science, technology, or project-based environments
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Ability to influence change and promote an inclusive environment
- Takes a data-driven approach with strong analytics and the ability to create the right people metrics and implement solutions to drive positive change
- Adaptable, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, sustaining HR programs and initiatives during times of change
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication; high quality document preparation, data visualization, and facilitation skills
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office tools
