Systems Administrator, IT Support
Reports to: Director of Finance & Administration
Status: Part-time (20 hours), Non-exempt
About the PositionInternational Bird Rescue is seeking a P
art-Time IT Specialist to oversee and maintain our technology infrastructure for 30+ employees across multiple locations, while ensuring efficient and secure operations. This role will provide IT support, manage systems and security, and implement technology solutions that align with our mission. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who can work independently while supporting a small but dynamic nonprofit team.
- IT Support & Maintenance – Manage all IT equipment; troubleshoot issues; oversee software updates, backups and overall system maintenance; and support staff as needed
- Network & Security Management – Maintain network security, ensure compliance and manager user access controls and IT security protocols
- Systems Administration & Cloud Services – Support staff with software applications (CRM, merchant services, accounting, etc) and cloud-based services (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Box, Basecamp, etc)
- IT Strategy & Project Managemen t – Assess needs and recommend cost-effective solutions, manage technology implementations such as system upgrades, software migrations and cybersecurity improvements
On-Site Support & Travel – Travel to multiple locations to provide support and assist with IT setup for events, trainings and conferences
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of IT support and network administration experience
- IT Certifications a plus including CompTIA A+ (an entry-level IT certification that covers networking, operating systems, security, and mobile devices)
- Experience working in a nonprofit environment is a plus
Technical
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Windows, Mac OS, and cloud-based applications.
Familiarity with nonprofit technology tools (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Quick Books, donor management systems) Experience with cybersecurity measures, including firewalls, antivirus, and data protection - Basic understanding of Cisco-Meraki and Ubiquity network equipment
- Background in website development preferred, especially Word Press
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills and the demonstrated ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Willingness and ability to travel between locations as needed
- Schedule: Part-time, 20-30 hours per week (flexible schedule available)
- Compensation: $25-35 per hour, based on experience
- Location: Fairfield headquarters with some required travel to other locations (San Pedro, CA)
